Polyaspartic Flooring in Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay Polyaspartic Floor Coatings

About twenty years ago polyaspartic coatings were made to prevent corrosion in steel. It was successful enough to be developed into a concrete coating and since then has been used in many Tampa Bay area homes and businesses. The basic components are much like epoxy and are applied to the top of the concrete. Additions of color and chips and quartz can be added to the coating while it is wet. A top coating will keep the quartz and the chips in place and the result is very decorative.

Qualities of Polyaspartic Coatings

A simple explanation is that polyaspartic coatings are those that protect the garage floor. When polyaspartic esters are added to the concrete it cures faster. If less polyaspartic esters are used then the time for the concrete to cure is slower. If professionally applied, the result is a very functional concrete floor. Most polyaspartic floors are ready within one day for use where as epoxy flooring can take as long as three days to cure. This makes polyaspartic a much more desirable choice for both convenience and durability. Polyaspartic coatings can adjust to all kinds of weather from extreme cold to extreme heat.

Stopping Ground Moisture

Frequently in the Tampa Bay area, there is moisture in the ground. The garage will also have ground moisture, and coupled with inclement weather such as heavy rains, the moisture is trapped in the ground. Moisture can seep under the slab floor and push up through the air holes in the concrete. Polyaspartic coatings help prevent damage from moisture because they are absorbed by the concrete rather than just lay on the top. If a professional applies the polyaspartic coating using grinding equipment, then the coatings penetrate the concrete and are absorbed into the surface. When the concrete is cured then the coatings are a part of the floor and bar any moisture from damaging the concrete.

Fixing a Damaged Concrete Floor

When there is moisture beneath a concrete floor there is salt that pushes its way to the top and damages the concrete. The damaged concrete floor can be fixed with the use of polyaspartic coatings because polyaspartic coatings have great wetting and penetrating characteristics that make it a part of the floor. If it is humid it does not restrict the application of polyaspartic coatings but some will set faster in high humidity.

Properties of Polyaspartic Floor Coatings

Polyaspartic coatings have certain properties that make them better than most epoxy coatings, such as:

  • They can be installed all year long in temperatures of up to one hundred and forty degrees;
  • They have clear finishes and are resistant to UV rays;
  • They are more impact resistant than epoxy or urethane;
  • They don't lose they color;
  • Curing is fast as polyaspartic coating can cure in one day as opposed to three days with epoxy or urethane coatings.
  • Your garage floor will be protected from and mild acids, fats or oils and polyaspartic coatings do not stain.

Making The Floor Non-Slip

Many professionals will add a non-slip particle into each layer of the concrete to make the floor less conducive to slipping. They use the right size non-slip particles in each layer thus keeping friction manageable. If the coating is too thick to put non-slip particles into each layer, then they are placed into the top only. Placing non-slip particles on the top is not practical since they wear down quickly and the floor becomes slippery. Utilizing a polyaspartic garage floor coating in your Tampa Bay home or business can certainly enhance the look and value of your property.
